But Page said he only discovered he had Spirit’s first album, which con- tained “Taurus,” a few years ago after his son-in-law told him that compar- isons with “Stairway” were cropping up online. Page, clad in a dark gray suit, a vest and tie and wearing his white hair in a ponytail, acknowledged that he had three Spirit albums in his collection of some 10 ,00 0 record album s and CDs. Musical experts not involved in the case have said the sequence is common and has appeared in other pieces from decades and even centuries ago. Earlier in the day, former Spirit mem- ber Mark Andes testified that riffs from both songs, played by an acoustic gui- tarist o n a vi de o aired in court, wer e the same. Jurors must decide whether the two sequences are substantially simi- lar.

An eight-member ju ry is h earing the copyrigh t in fringement case in fede ral court. A law yer for the estate of Spi rit’s late guitarist, Randy California, contends that the famous descending-chord gui- tar riff that begins 1971’s “Stairway” was lifted from the Spirit tune, which was released a few years earlier. It was totally alien to me,” Page said of the instrumental song, “Taurus,” by the band Spirit. LOS ANGELES - Led Zeppelin gui- tarist Jimmy Page testified Wednesday that until a few years ago, he’d never heard a song that the megastar band is accused of ripping off for “Stairway to Heaven.” “Something like that would stick in my mind. The county now has $154 million in reserves, the lowest level in 10 years. 67 b illi on General Fu nd bud g- et that th e Board of Su perviso rs will vote on next week. I’ll still check out whatever new music comes from them in the hope that they pull it out of the bag but it’s safe to say I’m not expecting much.San Mateo County is dipping into its reserves by nearly $62 million to balance next y ear’ s 1. While I’m all for them experimenting with new sounds, it’s just a shame they’ve never been ones that have worked for them for me. It’s a shame because Tourist History really was so fresh at the time, it took the energy of Foals’ Antidotes and gave it some pop direction to it, also while reminding me of Silent Alarm by Bloc Party too. False Alarm however is their worst offering and having checked my last.fm from the time I have only listened to Satisfaction Guaranteed and Talk more than once off the album.

However Beacon seemed like a more limp and tired sounding version of Tourist History (only Sun and Handshake come close to being the best off that album for me) and Gameshow was wildly uneven with some of their best songs (Ordinary, Bad Decisions, Are We Ready) marred with quite a few duds. Kind of have it on the same level as Torches by Foster The People and What Did You Expect From The Vaccines with a lot of nostalgia behind that album, and just below Pala by Friendly Fires which is in my view a more superior album to those as it has more substance to it for me. Tourist History was a pure lightning in a bottle moment, having relistened a while back it still holds up as a very fun indie pop album that has a lot of catchy moments, but it is very of it’s time. I think I’ll approach any new Two Door Cinema Club music with trepidation considering how I’ve liked each of their newest releases less and less.
